Selective Micro products have proven to be superior in real-world applications for algae reduction, enhanced root propagation and increased crop yield.

Our chlorine dioxide solutions are easy to use, versatile and extremely effective at low concentrations.

  • Virtually eliminate algae on surfaces and plants
  • Remove nutrient robbing bioslime in greenhouse water lines
  • Improve overall plant health
  • Improve the effectiveness of traditional, one direction irrigation lines

Unlike other sanitizing products that have not been effective against algae, Selective Micro products reduce algae and microbes in irrigation water and, with continuous use, will raise the level of sanitation in the greenhouse environment without harming plants or depleting nutrients. Our products and protocols are optimized specifically to inhibit and control algae. For use in greenhouses and large quantity applications, we suggest the Selectrocide® 12G product.

Usage Example

  • Typical use in a greenhouse is simple and easy. Place the Selective Micro sachets in a tank or vessel of water that you can use to introduce the chlorine dioxide into your system. To thoroughly clean water and irrigation lines circulate at a concentration of about 50 ppm. Contact time is dependent upon the organic debris in the lines and tanks as well as the size of the system you wish to clean. With circulation times ranging from a few hours to overnight (depending on the organic material in the system) Selective Micro products will fully clean your water or irrigation system. After your system is clean and flushed, you can continue a circulation of .25 ppm to keep lines clean and improve crop yield.
  • We feel confident that, after two shock treatments, if any microbial contamination remains, a continuous injection will complete the cleaning of the lines. If, however, continuous injection is not initiated immediately, a third shock treatment may be required on a case by case basis.

FAQ’s

Chlorine dioxide use continues to grow due to its anti-microbial properties and neutral pH. Still there are many questions regarding its use and properties. Here are a few of the most commonly asked questions and the answers.

What does Selective Micro make?

  • Selective Micro products are nearly pure (>99.9%) solutions of chlorine dioxide in water. Selective Micro products are generated via patented micro-reactor technology, designed to produce a specific amount of chlorine dioxide simply by adding water.

Can I use my existing fertilizer injector to inject Selectrocide®?

  • Often times the answer is “yes”. This depends on how your irrigation system is designed. Research results show that injecting Selectrocide® as close to the water source as possible provides the best results. Contacts us to help design a protocol for you.

Why use Selective Micro products over other treatments?

  • Selective Micro products are fast-working, effective, highly compatible and extremely quick-rinsing alternative to other cleaning agents on the market. Chlorine dioxide has more capacity to remove organic matter due to its inherent chemical characteristics. Since it offers much greater selectivity towards key organics, it presents superior material compatibility over other commonly used products, like chlorine. Because Selective Micro products are a pure gas in water, it will rapidly rinse from any surface or system (1-2 volumetric flushes).

Is Selectrocide® phytotoxic to plants?

  • Yes, but only at higher than recommended concentrations. As with any pesticide or growth regulating product, too much of a good thing can become bad. Research shows that phytotoxicity may occur at concentrations above 20 ppm. This is the reason we do not want the shock treatment solution that is flushed from the irrigation lines to be used to irrigate crops. The continuous dose of only 0.25 ppm is safe and well below any level that will cause phytotoxicity.

What can I expect to flush out of my irrigation lines as the bioslime and algae are killed?

  • Bioslime and algae contain organic and inorganic materials, as they are killed and lose their connection to the walls of the pipes, they will slough off and be carried through the line in the flow of water. These materials will be noticed as soon as the day after treatment and may continue for days or weeks.

Has chlorine dioxide been used before?

  • Chlorine dioxide has been recognized as an effective cleaning agent for decades. It is used in a wide range of hygiene-related applications worldwide. Municipal water systems have used chlorine dioxide to treat drinking water for over 50 years.

Why couldn’t I use chlorine dioxide before?

  • Selective Micro offers a patented technology that makes generating pure chlorine dioxide on-site very simple. Until recently, chlorine dioxide could only be produced by complicated, expensive chemical generators or poor quality “stabilized” solutions that present material compatibility hazards. Selective Micro offers a point-of-use (just add water) way to generate ultra-pure chlorine dioxide, and without the capital outlay necessary for an on-site chemical generator.

What is the shelf life of Selective Micro products?

  • In the manufacturer’s original unopened package, our products offer a shelf life of 18 months. You should check the liquid with a test strip for potency if the generated product is more than 2 weeks old.

Will these products damage my equipment?

  • No. Compatibility testing at 5 ppm and 100 ppm has demonstrated that Selective Micro products are compatible with most metals and plastics and should not damage pumps, valves, reservoirs, or water lines.

Are Selective Micro products hazardous?

  • No. Selective Micro products require no certifications for storage, handling, or use. There is no hazardous waste disposal. Plus, it is okay to pour excess activated solution down a drain.

Is there a test for concentration and flush up of Selective Micro Clean?

  • Chlorine dioxide is easily detectable. For quick on-site verification, Selective Micro offers test strips that quickly and accurately detect concentration and flush up.
